Cheapest Booze Calculator

Notes:
  • Assumes liquor is 80 proof (40%)
  • Assumes 1.5oz of liquor is equivalent to 12oz of beer.
  • Malt liquors like Steel Reserve and Olde English are not supported at this time.

  • What?
This tool calculates the price per beer (or equivalent for liquor) of a certain quantity of alcohol (ie. 6 pack, fifth).

    Why?
Getting elegantly wasted is costly. Sometimes you just need to get down to business and drink some manly booze that puts hair on your chest and shows your liver who's boss. When the time comes, why buy a random case of American sex-in-a-canoe beer and spend more money than you need to when you can use this calculator to find out how to get drunk in the cheapest possible way.

    How?
For beer, the formula for finding the price per beer is (price / ounces)12. When you add liquor to the equation it gets tricky because 1.5oz of 80 proof Hard A is equivalent to a 12oz beer which is a 1:8 ratio. Thus, hooch is 8 times stronger (per ounce) than suds. Taking this into account I devised the following equation:
    ( price / ( ounces * strength ) ) * 12
Is this the most time anyone has put into deciding what beer to get for a night out with the dudes? Absolutely!
